Athena SWAN award success

Both the School of Engineering and Computing, Electronics and Mathematics have successfully conferred Athena SWAN bronze awards in the April 2018 application round. 

Athena SWAN is a Charter, designed to advance gender equality in higher education. 

Bronze accreditation for these schools is recognised across the sector as a standard that reflects the positive steps taken towards promoting gender equality principles.

Women in STEM conference 2017

In March 2017 the Faculty of Science and Engineering hosted the third annual Women in STEM conference. 

Building on the success of previous years the conference brought together students, employers, teachers, postgraduate and early career researchers as well as experienced academics in order to share experience and discuss the future for women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) occupations. 

A mixture of speakers and workshops aimed to inspire and provide practical knowledge for students and educators. 

This was epitomised by keynote speaker and Senior Technical Architect to Vodaphone, Rubi Kaur, in her lecture 'Women in STEM: Today. Tomorrow. The Future. Our Society needs you!'. 

SoCEM academic gives talk at Tedx Plymouth

Former Lecturer in information systems, Ismini Vasileiou gave a lecture at the most recent Tedx Plymouth Event. In her talk 'Unconscious bias: confronting stereotypes' Ismini draws on personal experience as she tells her story of how she came to a career in STEM. Watch the full lecture.
