Clean Maritime
With around 80% of global trade by volume being carried by sea and 30-50% of CO2 being absorbed by the ocean, the requirement to conduct maritime activity in a clean and sustainable manner is clear.
Clean Maritime refers to the body of multi-disciplinary activities which address the issues of doing this, whether it be decarbonising vessel propulsion systems or investigating methods of antifouling with lower environmental impact. Very often the challenges presented by attempting to undertake maritime activities in a clean manner require the input from experts in a diverse range of fields working in an interdisciplinary manner, be they Engineers, Scientists, Lawyers or from the Arts and Humanities sector.
The Centre for Decarbonisation and Offshore Renewable Energy (C-DORE) provides a structure for this form of collaboration, by identifying the challenges and bringing together the expertise to work towards a solution.
