Welcome from your Dean

"As I started to write this welcome, I was struck by how easy it was to find positive words to describe the staff, students and programmes that I am responsible for as Dean. Motivated, passionate, supportive and friendly can be applied to both students and staff; for our programmes, it would be involving, relevant, experiential and, for many, professionally-accredited.

At the heart of our teaching philosophy is the desire to give you programmes that are driven by research-informed teaching and are at the leading edge in their fields. We want you to be hands-on with as much of our equipment as possible, to develop skills as well as knowledge.

If you aren’t in the lecture theatre or the lab, you may well be in the field – we are lucky to have a location that supports our field-based programmes. If you are not on a field-based programme, you will still find the sea, the moors and the city to be very beneficial for social and leisure activities!

I joined the University in the summer of 2014 so I have recently experienced what you will find when you come to Plymouth – the warmth of the welcome, the friendly, supportive environment and the thrill of discovering the amazing things that we do here. I look forward to you joining me and experiencing this for yourselves!"

Semester dates 2015/16

As the University moves to a two-semester system from September 2015, we thought it would be useful - particularly to those booking accommodation for the coming year - if we flagged up the forthcoming dates for undergraduate courses in our school.
