Interior Architecture is about transforming existing buildings into places that support and reflect contemporary life. At a time defined by climate urgency, rapid technological change, and evolving patterns of living and working, the question is no longer simply what we build, but how we rethink and repurpose the existing. You will study a discipline that sits deliberately between architecture and interior design, with a clear and distinctive focus on the transformation of existing buildings.

Programme overview
You will explore how existing buildings can be creatively adapted and transformed into sustainable, inspiring spaces. Combining design thinking with digital technologies, you'll develop skills in spatial design, materials, environmental strategies, and user experience while learning how to enhance and repurpose existing structures.
Through studio projects, technical practice, and research, you'll build the knowledge and confidence to shape a more sustainable built environment, with a focus on reuse, regeneration, and responsible design.
Optional placement year
An optional paid work placement year offers invaluable practical work experience. We recommend pursuing a placement, as it enhances your final year of study and improves your employability on graduation.

Studio culture
Our designated architecture studio spaces provide a unique learning environment. We are one of the very few architecture courses in the UK in which every student has their own studio and desk space, so you can work whenever you feel inspired. You will be part of a vibrant, creative community alongside students and staff from fine art, art and performance, graphics and photography, 3D design and humanities.
Architecture offers each student a desk in a studio, a space that is yours to do as you wish with it. The studio culture here is amazing, integrating both a working and social environments into one place.

Babbage Building houses contemporary specialist equipment and laboratories, this facility brings engineering, science and the arts together, enabling holistic and creative approaches to problem-solving to address some of the world’s biggest issues, such as climate change and healthcare.
Digital Fabrication and Immersive Media Laboratories
Our labs offer access to technology such as motion-capture, augmented and extended reality and a wide array of digital fabrication tools which enable users to develop and prototype new products, services and experiences, create bespoke tools for complex and specialist research purposes and engage with new opportunities for innovative, interdisciplinary collaborations.

Empowering women in architecture
We need to see more women in positions of leadership. Across the industry as a whole we see so many more male directors than women and it makes me wonder, where am I? Where are my female role models to look up to? To see more women in positions of leadership, we have to nurture female talent.
Part of my role as lead for the Women in Architecture Focus Group is to put a spotlight on the work of our female architects.
Our graduates will be ready for professional practice and equipped for careers across interior architecture, spatial design, and the wider built environment sector, particularly in areas connected to retrofit, regeneration, and sustainable development. Across your degree you will learn vital and in demand professional skills, like how to work with existing buildings, integrate technical and environmental knowledge, and communicate ideas clearly to different audiences.

The Government has announced that tuition fees from Academic Year 28/29 onwards will be subject to automatic annual inflationary increases, which we believe will be at a similar rate to the recent annual increases to fees, and may continue to be inflation based.
