How we can support you

We recognise that you, our degree apprentices, are working towards the knowledge, skills and behaviours of your apprenticeship occupational standard. Although there are some noticeable differences between degree apprenticeship programmes and the University's more mainstream undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes, the Careers Service is still here to support you through these webpages, myCareer and/or in person in the Student Hub.

You are studying in the sector of your choice for a recognised qualification, whilst gaining valuable and practical skills for a career you’re passionate about while continuing to earn a competitive salary. We have over 800 degree apprentices studying with us across 14 degree apprenticeship standards, from civil engineering to project management and from a town planner to a registered nurse.

We acknowledge this, so we have factored this into the services and resources that we offer. Also, don’t forget to bookmark the University’s degree apprenticeship Hub website.

At some point within your career you may also decide to look for promotion opportunities or simply expand your professional network to develop, progress or even change your career. We can support you when you are ready for that.

There is also a wealth of career related information at Prospects. You also have access to MyCareer – for events, appointments, local, regional and national vacancies alongside our Careers Service in the Student Hub.

Continued Professional Development

Continued Professional Development (CPD) is a self-directed and structured process of reflective learning which can help you manage your own development on an ongoing basis and can help you to set career development goals in the short, medium and long-term. CPD can include formal or informal training, work shadowing, mentoring, and self-directed learning

Most professional bodies will offer CPD opportunities to its members so if you don’t already belong to one, it might be worth looking in to this. Other useful websites include:
