Welcome to the Careers Service

Welcome to your Careers Service

Supporting you in your career journey and enabling you to succeed in the world of work is our job. We want you to take that first step in planning your career, or maybe the next step in terms of realising your ambitions.

University of Plymouth graduates are highly successful in the world of work. Our graduates are sought after and secure roles locally, regionally, nationally and globally. They work for the biggest and most famous companies and brands, alongside the small high growth businesses – across all sectors and in a vast array of roles.

Our service comes in all shapes and sizes and there is something for everyone, however decided and focussed, or undecided and unsure you may be. The key is to engage with us throughout your whole time at University.

Much of what we do will be part of your academic programmes through workshops, events, placements, networks - working with the academic staff teaching on your course. Alongside that, we offer materials, networks and resources online through our 24/7 portal, and a wide range of activities, opportunities and support centrally in the Careers Service space within the Student Hub.

Remember this is YOUR Careers Service. We are here to help you to Explore, Connect and Succeed.

Steve Gaskin – Head of Careers Service.

"I am an MA English Literature student, who studied BA English at Plymouth previously. Having worked for 2 years as a Student Engagement Assistant for the Careers Service, I have constantly had the opportunity to develop my skills and work on projects relevant to my end career goals, including social media management and marketing training. I highly recommend seeking out a work-experience opportunity, microinternship or the mentoring programme as these can be invaluable in developing key employability skills."

"The University careers team were able to support me during my search for a placement as well as the application process. I found the role I applied for through myCareer, which provided information about the role and a direct link to the application page. The University then assisted me with my CV and even offered mock interviews. I think this service is excellent as they gave me lots of tips and tricks on how to maximise my CV which definitely helped during my application."
