Marine expertise at Research Festival 2021

Showcasing the latest research and opportunities to collaborate

Join our world-leading researchers and invited guests as they explore topics from offshore renewable energy to cybersecurity, plastic pollution to climate change and more, drawing on our rich heritage of marine and maritime research excellence to share cutting-edge research that makes an impact on the world.

Our experts will be joined by speakers including Nigel Topping, COP26 High Level Climate Action Champion, and Tom Heap, presenter of BBC's Countryfile and Costing the Earth.

Research Festival 2021 is a week of free online events that are open to all, welcoming contributors and attendees from around the world to hear the latest cutting-edge research and discover how your research or business could achieve greater impact through collaboration.

Whether you choose to join one event or take part all week, there’s a rich programme of marine, sustainability, health, arts and education research ready to be explored.

World number one for marine impact

We are ranked first out of 379 institutions worldwide against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal number 14: life below water.

The award recognises the quality of our marine research and teaching as well as our efforts to reduce the impact of campus activities on the marine environment. The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
