University Practice Partnerships: Sustaining collaboration across learning environments (UPPScale)

University Practice Partnerships: Sustaining collaboration across learning environments (UPPScale) are a group of settings with which the Institute work most closely to collaborate on promoting research, developing pedagogy and enhancing learners’ experience.

The UPPScale group includes a variety of education settings such as alternative, special education and mainstream education and we actively promote a diverse range to match our research expertise and student interests.

UPPScale:

  • Promotes collaborative research and development projects in which partners work with staff and students from the Plymouth Institute of Education.
  • Researchers have a wealth of expertise and experience in working with practising and future teachers, mentoring and designing educational professional development.
  • Project participants are committed to the idea of professionals collaborating to improve children’s educational experience.

We conduct research with a variety of partners, such as nurseries, schools, colleges, universities, charities, and arts and leisure organisations, in a range of contexts. These include the home, work, nature, arts and the community. UPPScale has four main strands: Research Partnerships for collaborative projects; Placement Partnerships for initial teacher education and professional development; Student Partnerships featuring student-led research and community projects; and Future Partnerships for developing ideas, funding bids or opportunities.

UPPScale was developed by a steering group alongside Associate Professor Jan Georgeson and Senior Research Fellow Rowena Passy. They lead the UPPScale team in offering support in planning and implementing research projects. If you are interested in any of these types of collaboration, please email uppscale@plymouth.ac.uk.
