Business Performance & Enterprise (CITY1130)
In the hospitality, events and tourism industry, potential managers need to have an understanding of the principles of managing business performance including techniques or strategies used and their impact on decision making from a financial perspective. This module will examine these principles and apply them to case studies within the sector.
Customer Relationship Marketing (CITY1131)
This module introduces students to the basic principles of marketing and their application in a hospitality, events and tourism context. marketing is at the heart of every organisation’s activities. It is also of growing importance in the non-commercial, public and voluntary sectors. The customer’s needs and expectations will also be introduced along with the tools and techniques used in the modern marketing industry.
International Tourism & Sustainability (CITY1132)
This module explores the organisation, structure and interdependency of the travel and tourism industry, with a focus on the environmental, political, social and cultural impacts that this has internationally. It will examine case studies and discuss the economic and moral impact tourists have in a given area and highlight their sustainability problems and initiatives.
Leadership and Personal Development Skills (CITY1133)
The aim of this module is to give learners a general understanding of the management and leadership issues within the tourism, events and hospitality industry. This module will identify theories on leadership, team development, and motivation, which will give learners an insight into their own motivation and leadership styles as learners develop their personal development plans (PDP).
The Event and Festival Industry (CITY1138)
This module introduces the learner to the fundamental aspects of events and festivals in a tourism and hospitality context. It will enable the learner to demonstrate a detailed understanding of the festival and event industry, its sub-sectors, current trends and issues focussing on the changing nature of the events and festivals industry.
Events Operations (CITY1140)
This module enables the student to understand the complexities of events management and demonstrate an understanding of theory into practice in restaurant and other dining environments.
Research Methods in Hospitality, Tourism & Events Management (CITY2142)
Staging Events (CITY2143)
This module offers students the opportunity to plan, organise and manage events in the hospitality, events and tourism sector. The module is designed to develop the academic, organisational and reflective skills necessary to be an effective event manager. Concepts of employability and team dynamics in relation to staging events enables learners to gain an understanding of the opportunities that exist for future employment.
The Hospitality, Tourism & Events Customer Experience (CITY2144)
This module examines key aspects of customer service provision within the hotel, tourism and events sector, and evaluates the methods by which organisations manage both customer services and the development of relationships. The module will consider methods employed by organisations, skills required by staff, the use of appropriate technology and quality initiatives used to develop excellence.
Managing People (CITY2145)
This module explores essential theories, attributes, skills, approaches and strategies which contribute to the effective management of the employer/employee relationship. It looks at practical considerations of the management of people in the Hospitality, Tourism & Events sector and develops the employability skills required by the future managers and leaders in the sector.
Sustainable Festival and Events Management (CITY2150)
This module provides an overview of sustainable development and how this is adapted to the festivals and events industry. It reviews the importance of sustainable practices at all stages of event delivery and examples of best sustainable practice will form a major part of the module content
Promoting Events, Conferences, Exhibitions and Festivals (CITY2151)
Through this module students develop and demonstrate an in-depth understanding and appreciation of the role of marketing in developing and promoting successful events, conferences and festivals.
Completing this course enables you to progress onto these related courses and programmes with the University of Plymouth at level 5 or level 6, as specifically defined by this programme’s progression agreement.
