Green Starts Here – sustainable campus dining in 2025

2024 was a remarkable year for the Catering team, and we’re incredibly proud of our achievements! Not only have we renewed our 3-star rating with the Sustainable Restaurant Association, but we’ve also earned Fairtrade Accreditation as a university, receiving 2 out of 3 stars.
We’re committed to continuing our sustainable practices across campus, offering students eco-friendly food and beverage options all year round.

Sustainable food options on campus

Be even greener by choosing from our sustainable menu items! Whether ordering a Fairtrade organic coffee, opting for one of our vegan options, or indulging in a vegetarian meal, we’ve got you covered. Daily vegan specials are available at Drake’s Kitchen, John Bull Cafe and RLB Cafe. Loafers Deli serves great sandwich options, while The Container and other campus cafes offer tasty treats. Don’t miss out on Reservoir Cafe, our vegetarian and vegan cafe offering healthy and delicious meals!

The Great Sandwich Showdown

The winner of the Great Sandwich Showdown is The Italian Job (sundried tomatoes, mozzarella, pesto, rocket and balsamic glaze)! This is our Sandwich of the Week at Loafers Deli, available for just £3.75 for students.

We proudly source our milk from Trewithen Dairy, located just 27 miles from campus. Celebrate with us by learning more about our milk journey on TikTok here.
National Egg Day: Tuesday 3 June
We only use free-range eggs across campus! Enjoy them in:
• cooked breakfasts
• boiled eggs in our salad bars
• frittata or quiche specials at the Reservoir Cafe.
National Cheese Day: Wednesday 4 June
Indulge in cheesy campus favourites:
• ultimate grilled cheese and more at Loafers Deli
• cheesy garlic bread and margherita pizza at Portland’s Pizzeria

World Environment Day: Thursday 5 June
We’re committed to sustainability – reducing plastic use and promoting reusable bottles and cups. Bring your reusable cup and save 20p on hot drinks!
Sausage Roll Day: Thursday 5 June
Enjoy handmade sausage rolls, including vegan sweet potato and curried chickpea options at The Container.

Meet our young chefs Kim Davis and Euan Niland at Flavour Fest!

Flavour Fest, the South West’s largest food and drink festival returns to Plymouth city centre for its 21st year on 30 May – 1 June.
This year’s event will feature over 100 stalls of fantastic local produce on the Piazza. You can expect an exciting array of top street food and world cuisine. Head to The Bazaar, for a vibrant cultural experience with even more delicious food and entertainment. Our chefs will be demonstrating their cooking skills at 17:00 on Friday 30 May.

Coffee with Cops

The University's Community Police Officer is running sessions when students, staff or members of the community are welcome to sit and chat with them.
Join us for a friendly coffee chat with local law enforcement. Have a coffee and chat with no pressure or agendas and get some advice with a cop from Devon & Cornwall Police. All sessions will be in Portland's Pizzeria between 12:00–14:00.
