Babcock Project Management Degree Apprenticeship Induction Day at the University of Plymouth 1

The University of Plymouth has worked in partnership with Babcock to launch a new Project Management Degree Apprenticeship programme.

This year, eight apprentices have embarked on a four-year programme and on successful completion they’ll achieve a BSc (Hons) Integrated Project Management degree.

The apprentices will remain in their roles throughout the programme and receive the benefit of bespoke, work-related modules delivered by the University.

Babcock and the University of Plymouth share an ambition to develop capability and attract and grow this new Project Management Degree Apprenticeship both locally and across the region.

Diane Stanley, Programme Lead and Lecturer in Project and Business Management at the University of Plymouth, said:

“The Project Management Degree Apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in project management to obtain a degree that has been designed in conjunction with employers. The skills and knowledge apprentices gain is relevant, up to date and needed now. Apprentices have the unique opportunity to use the skills they have learnt in the workplace from day one. It’s a win, win situation for the University, employer and apprentices.”

Kathryn Jones, Babcock’s Director of Project Management for the Nuclear Sector, said:

“Babcock has worked closely with the University to develop this course, which will provide an excellent foundation in all aspects of successful project management. This, linked with the experience and exposure that our apprentices get working on world-class projects at Devonport, will support them to become highly skilled project managers who are able to support our customers far into the future.”

Paul Cummings, Babcock Senior Project Engineer who is on the programme, said:

“The degree apprenticeship is an exciting and unique opportunity that is particularly attractive for someone like me who joined Babcock without an engineering or project management background. I’m excited about the lessons and workshops at the university and seeing how I can apply those principles in my daily work activities.”
