We have a step-wise approach to clinical placements in primary care. In the first year of the programme, there are some GP placements where students may spend time with GPs, practice nurses and health care assistants. They also have placements with other primary healthcare providers including community dieticians, opticians and pharmacists, as well as important health-related placements outside the NHS such as rehabilitation centres, funeral directors and schools for disabled children.
Students will experience General Practice in a range of settings, with placements including rural and inner city practices in Devon and Cornwall, with increasing exposure from the second to fifth year of the programme. In their Fifth year, students spend a 6 week block in a practice and run parallel surgeries under the supervision of the GP.
