Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Reports

Our policies and guidance are designed with our staff networks and UPSU to ensure they are fully representative of everyone in our community. They support our continuing work in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.

Whatever you’re doing at the University, whoever you’re working or studying with and in whatever capacity, our policies apply to you.

Zero Tolerance Approach

Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the core of what it means to work or study at the University of Plymouth. We are committed to equal opportunities, maintaining an inclusive environment and ensuring all members of the University community treat each other with dignity and respect.

Bullying and harassment undermine dignity and respect and the University of Plymouth has a zero tolerance approach to such incidents. Students, staff, contractors and visitors should have the confidence to report harassment or bullying without fear of victimisation. No member of our community should experience any form of harassment including racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, antisemitism, islamophobia or any other form of discrimination based on a protected characteristic. Regardless of protected characteristic all staff and students should be treated with dignity and respect and the University of Plymouth does not tolerate any incidents of abuse, harm or hate.

Our Dignity and Respect Policy outlines the University’s approach to tackling any behaviours which undermine a person’s dignity (including bullying, harassment and hate incidents).

Anyone within our community can also request a confidential Dignity and Respect Advisor by contacting the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Team in confidence or report incidents anonymously using our Speak Up tool.

Stay safe overseas

Travelling overseas with a protected characteristic can sometimes be challenging and add additional barriers to the safety and enjoyment of your trip. Working with Health and Safety, our Staff Networks and UPSU we have a dedicated travel advice page to help you when planning a trip.
