A University of Plymouth academic has joined more than 200 experts from nearly 90 countries to advance the global assessment of climate change adaptation.
It comes after he was named as one of just 31 UK-based researchers appointed as a Lead Author for the IPCC Seventh Assessment Report (Working Group II).
For the report, Dr Lam is a Lead Author for Chapter 18, Adaptation of human settlements, infrastructure and industry systems, which examines how cities and societies can adapt to the increasing challenges of climate change.
It aligns with Dr Lam’s expertise in climate science, social science, and human health and has a particular focus on the impact of climate change, urban design and vegetation on people’s physical and psychological health.
The recent meeting saw around 200 authors from nearly 90 countries travel to Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, where they continued to refine the initial drafts of their chapters.
It is a process started during a meeting in Paris in December 2025, and the Bahamas meeting also included discussions around the most effective ways their evidence can support policymakers in shaping action on climate impacts, adaptation and vulnerability.
The delegates also had the chance to see how the effects of climate change are impacting the islands and the people living on them, and heard from local leaders, including the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, The Hon. Philip Davis KC, about the relevance and importance of their work.
