Shelter new logo 2021

Shelter is a national advice charity that assists people with a range of housing and homelessness issues through providing advice, support, and legal services. They also carry out research and campaigning to encourage government and policy makers to tackle the causes and consequences of these issues.

At the Plymouth Law Clinic, students have the opportunity to contribute to Shelter’s valuable work. With mentor support from one of the legal team from Shelter, students will shadow and undertake projects with their legal team, assisting with cases from initial client interviews through to attending court. Students will gain experience and skills in legal research, report writing, case management, information requests and chronologies.

"Shelter Plymouth has hosted a number of students from the Plymouth Law Clinic. The students have undertaken a variety of tasks supporting Shelter’s casework including legal research, evidence gathering and drafting. By undertaking this work the students have contributed to Shelter’s work to prevent people losing their homes and in our fight to end the devastating impact of the housing emergency.”
