Engineering Graduate Skills (PETR1140)
This module is designed to enable students to demonstrate that they have all the qualities and transferable skills necessary for appropriate academic work and employment requiring the exercise of responsibility and decision making, including the ability to relate their professional practice to underlying theory and principles. Students use reflective techniques to inform and evaluate progress.
Mechatronics (PETR1141)
On successful completion of this unit students will be able to explain the basic mechatronic system components and functions, design a simple mechatronic system specification for a given application, use appropriate simulation and modelling software to examine its operation and function, and solve faults on mechatronic systems using a range of techniques and methods
Organisational Behaviour (PETR1152)
This module considers how organisational behaviour and attitude influences the behaviour of individuals and groups at work. The module will use a range of theories and managerial approaches to analyse and explain human behaviour at work.
Math and Mechanics (PETR1162)
This module focuses upon the mathematical strategies and processes involved in solving a wide range of engineering problems. Develops analytical and algebraic skills transferable to manufacturing subjects. Gives students the scientific and analytical tools to solve problems in their own field, also exposes them to the application of vectors, matrix methods, calculus and statistics across common areas.
Hygiene and Food Safety (PETR1163)
Food manufacturers required by law must provide consumers with food that safe to eat. This module provides an opportunity to extend knowledge of hygiene and food safety which is a critical issue for food manufacturers.
Food Processing (PETR1164)
This module introduces the basic principles of food processing operations from field to fork. The module aims to develop an underpinning knowledge of the principal methods of food processing used in the food and drink manufacturing industry. Knowledge will be developed of how processing operations and specific conditions relate to the physicochemical and biochemical changes that take place in food during processing.
Food Quality and Sensory Science (PETR2161)
This module introduces food quality assurance, an essential function in food manufacturing. Developing the practical application of the assessment and control of food quality. The sensory science element of this module focuses on the key role sensory testing plays in controlling the quality of manufactured foods and best practice for conducting sensory testing.
Food and Drink Innovation (PETR2162)
This module focuses on the process of developing new commercially viable food and drink products. This module aims to develop critical knowledge and understanding of new product development practices.
