"Studying BSc (Hons) Mathematics with Education set me up fantastically for a future career in secondary teaching.
During the third year of my degree, I did a placement module which allowed me to spend one day a week in a local secondary school. I was able to see the day-to-day running of a school and was given the opportunity to gain some valuable teaching experience.
I am now studying for a PGCE. I chose to study the education module for my final year project and was able to look in depth at one area of teaching mathematics in a secondary classroom. Being able to dedicate this amount of time to education research has given me a fantastic insight into the field and has also been a great benefit to my PGCE. I thoroughly enjoyed carrying out my research and thanks to the great support I received from my university tutors, I was lucky enough to receive an award for the best final year education project at my graduation.
The course not only helped me to follow my chosen career path, but it also enabled me to carry on stretching and challenging my knowledge of the subject that I love, mathematics."
