World Environment Day (5 June) is an official UN observance, hosted each year by a selected country. In 2025, the Republic of Korea has been chosen for the first time in 28 years to host this significant event, in Jeju, hosted by the Ministry of Environment and UNEP between 2–5 June.
With the theme of 'Ending Plastic Pollution', this year’s World Environment Day comes exactly two months before countries meet again to continue negotiating a global treaty to end plastic pollution.
Participants include the Minister of Environment, Chair and Members of the National Assembly Environment and Labor Committee, Governor of Jeju, UNEP Executive Director, Ambassadors and Institutional Representatives, as well as approximately 1,000 attendees.
Programme highlights include an opening ceremony, keynote speeches, congratulatory videos, panel discussion, policy declaration, etc.
