Join us as we celebrate the power of film at the University of Plymouth.  
We show a diverse selection of films, offering a unique insight into cinematic treasures from hidden gems of past cinema to critical documentaries and daring cult classics, our programme promises to inspire, provoke, and captivate audiences. Accompanied by talks from esteemed film directors, filmmakers, University academics, writers and critics, each screening offers a fascinating exploration of the ever-evolving culture of the moving image.    

The film programme at the University of Plymouth is unique in that it can really explore cinema culture and draw out playful insights and connections with so many other aspects of The Arts & Culture programme and the different academic disciplines at the University.

Celluloid Psychology series  

“Cinema is inextricably intertwined with psychology. Every film ultimately emerges from the mind of one human with the intention of making an impact on the mind of another.”

The Celluloid Psychology series is an ongoing series of films exploring the mind and brain in cinema. Each of the carefully selected films is curated and introduced by a specialist in human behaviour who will discuss how their area of expertise can shed unexpected light on the psychological questions explored in the film.

The Jill Craigie Cinema

Nestled on the ground floor of the Roland Levinsky Building on the University of Plymouth campus, the Jill Craigie Cinema serves as a beacon of cinematic excellence. Named in honour of the pioneering filmmaker Jill Craigie, our cinema provides a cozy yet immersive setting for film enthusiasts to indulge in thought-provoking screenings and engaging discussions. With a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere, the Jill Craigie Cinema invites audiences to discover the power of cinema in a dynamic and inspiring environment.

Supporting film culture and talent in the South West

The Bridge is a member of the British Film Institute (BFI) Film Hub South West. Supported by National Lottery funding, Film Hub South West is a growing network of over 140 cinemas, film festivals, cross-arts venues and other film exhibition organisations, working together to develop a thriving and inclusive cultural film exhibition sector.
