Workplace Agreement (WPA)

This is an agreement between the University and the placement provider.

It must be signed by both parties and be in place before students are placed.

The key areas covered relate to:

  • Reviewing of placement numbers
  • Termination of a placement
  • Occupational health
  • Criminal records screening
  • University obligations (e.g. relating to training of supervisors, standards of supervision, monitoring student progress, etc.)
  • Placement provider obligations (e.g. relating to student induction, student access to facilities, etc.)
  • Liability
  • Indemnities
  • Insurance
  • Supernumerary status

Learning Development Agreement (LDA)

This is an agreement between Health Education England and the placement provider. In the South West it is managed by Health Education South West (HESW).

The LDA is initiated by HESW, once the University has advised them that a student has been placed.

It enables HESW to pay the tariff to the placement provider at the end of the year.
