Publishing Quality Control Officer

Marketing Services (Design) - Marketing Services (External Relations)

My role as Publishing Quality Control Officer is split across web and print:

  • maintaining the events calendar on the extranet as Events Calendar Editor (creating and uploading new pages, updating and editing existing pages) and sourcing University-related events both for the calendar and the External Relations Activities List (ERAL)
  • processing and dealing with queries and requests for the Events Calendar email inbox (Events Calendar webpage for further information:
  • proofreading and checking corporate publications in line with the University house style and tone of voice guidelines
  • checking partner college publications and print advertising material for compliancy with University branding and quality control requirements (collaborating with Academic Partnerships colleagues and giving University sign-off to a publication)
  • collating events information for the annual HEBCIS survey for R&I colleagues
  • input and responsibility for the University-wide ERAL planning document
  • assisting with the scheduling (in collaboration with colleagues) of the undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses and other corporate publications
  • dealing with information requests relating to archived undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses.
My previous role as Publications Assistant included elements of the above plus involvement with the prospectus production process (incorporating scheduling, co-ordinating the partner colleges section information, compiling the index, updating the prospectus intranet community to provide guidance/information and updating course information in the CMS).

Before focusing on publications, I was PR Assistant for eight years and my role included providing PR cover, dealing with media enquiries, writing/distributing news releases and event notices, and financial administration for the department (processing invoices and payments) plus designing and submitting corporate course recruitment adverts in local and national newspapers.

During this time I was also responsible for the publicity, ticket sales and financial reporting administration for the Plymouth Chamber Music Trust's concerts that were held at the University from 1994-2010.
