Natural variability in coastal morphology

Wave Hub Impacts on Seabed & Shoreline Processes (WHISSP)

This work package will evaluate all existing data pertaining to historical beach changes in response to measured hydrodynamic conditions. This will be used to establish the range of natural variability in beach morpholgy, coastal response to extreme conditions and beach recovery rates. This study will exploit maps, Argus video imagery (from 1996 at Perranporth), aerial and satellite images, wave data, and beach survey data and will examine all beaches from St. Ives to Newquay.

This work package will also include an analysis of the wave climate, with respect to the nearshore conditions, and use will be made of the extensive environmental assessment work already undertaken by a range of organisations.
