Carbis Bay beach, St Ives, Cornwall.

The University of Plymouth’s world-leading research and innovation will be showcased to regional, national and global business leaders and influencers ahead of the 2021 G7 summit in Cornwall.

British Chambers of Commerce South West (BCCSW) will present C7, a conference designed for business and industry to ask questions of world leaders and global policy, discussing the challenges and opportunities in achieving a truly Blue and Green Global Economy.

Speakers and panellists include former Cabinet Secretary and Head of Civil Service, the Rt Hon Lord Sedwill, and the leaders of premier business organisations and prominent chambers from around the world.

The University is the headline sponsor of the free virtual conference, which takes place on Thursday 27 May and is now open for bookings.

Rich Adams, Business Engagement Manager at the University, said:

“The G7 summit presents a huge range of opportunities for the South West region. Among those is the chance to showcase fields in which we are truly world-leading to a global audience, such as marine research and conservation, the development of marine technology and our pioneering work on offshore renewable energy. The C7 conference gives us an early opportunity to engage with business leaders from G7 nations to ensure they are fully aware of both the existing and potential excellence we possess.”

The C7 takes place just two weeks before the start of the G7 conference when eyes across the globe will be on Cornwall as world leaders discuss the very same issues in picturesque Carbis Bay.

Stuart Elford, Chair of BCCSW, the regional affiliation of accredited county chambers in the South West, added:

“How we achieve a Blue and Green economy is of particular significance in the South West – it is a global issue being played out with pressing consequences for our peninsula. Cornwall, the venue for the G7 summit, has the potential to be a world leader in how we manage green and marine assets while growing our economy. The wider South West – home to the UK’s first National Marine Park, marine tech companies of international repute and a business community ready to thrive in a sustainable environment – can play a globally instrumental role.
“Environment and economy must nurture one another to promote sustainable growth, and business has a huge role to play in how we achieve this. This event will send a clear message to the G7 leaders on how it can be possible – and what needs to change to make it happen. BCCSW is proud to bring together so many business leaders of international repute for an event that demands attention from the G7. We look forward to hearing the varied opinions of all panellists on such pressing issues.”
