University Security team with the Association of University Chief Security Officers (AUCSO) team of the year award

The University of Plymouth’s Security team has been named team of the year at an international awards ceremony.
The award was given by the Association of University Chief Security Officers (AUCSO) – the primary association for security professionals working in universities and colleges in 22 countries across the globe.
Recognising the breadth of services the Plymouth team delivers, the award made special reference to staff’s handling of a recent nighttime incident that required delivering lifesaving first aid to a member of the public, alongside their community work, partnerships with emergency services, and deep sense of social responsibility.
Often the first on scene to support welfare concerns, the Security team is responsible for providing 24-hour cover for the campus and University-managed halls of residence.
Plymouth is consistently ranked in the top 10 safest cities in the UK, and Security Manager Jamie Clarke paid tribute to the University team’s outstanding work in protecting its community.

Honestly, I couldn’t be prouder. The team demonstrates extraordinary courage, professionalism and compassion, often in challenging circumstances.

This award is fitting recognition for what they do every day, and how they go above and beyond what their roles require.
In the face of adversity, including the sad loss of a colleague, they have showed remarkable resilience, supporting one another while continuing to protect their University community with unwavering dedication.
They are responsible for crime prevention, emergency response and access control across the campus, and have responded to any welfare incidents with compassion and care, often acting as the first point of support in moments of acute crisis.
We know that our community on and around campus is in the safest of hands, and it’s wonderful to have an international award to recognise that.
