Andrew Reid, MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering

"I am currently in the final year of my MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree after completing a placement year. The course has lots of hands-on coursework, which gives the opportunity to reinforce everything that I have learnt in lectures. There is an easy-access lab, full of equipment such as power supplies, signal generators, oscilloscopes and even spectrum and network analysers, allowing you to work when it is convenient for you!

During my placement year, I worked for a company which designed and manufactured search and rescue equipment. It was a great opportunity to apply everything I had learnt at university to real problems within industry. I also found my final year a lot easier after learning so much while at work.

The course has involved a lot of group work, which has allowed me to develop my skills, both as a team member and as a team leader. It has also given me loads of hands-on practical experience to fully understand the theoretical content and develop my practical skills, improving my employability prospects.

I have also found that University of Plymouth has the best aspects of being a campus and a city centre university. You can live close to the University, but still have access to all the city centre amenities. The location is also convenient if you want to visit the beach or Dartmoor!"
