After attending a Plymouth University open day, it was clear that Plymouth was the university for me. It just had such a good feel to it. The lecturers were extremely friendly and welcoming, with so much experience both in research and in industry. However, the deciding factor was the hands-on experience the course gave. I loved the idea that I would learn how to conduct various experiments as well as using the high tech equipment the department had, something I believe gives you a head start in the job market.

Since leaving Plymouth University I have decided to pursue my ultimate career dream of becoming a teacher. I have been completing a PGCE and will shortly be taking up the position of Science Teacher at Lipson Community College in Plymouth. I will be teaching science to students ranging from 11-18. My degree has allowed to me specialise in post 16 teaching but I also work with a tutor group. The best thing about this job is how rewarding it is; every day presents a new challenge and a new experience.

The degree course at Plymouth really gave me all the attributes I needed for my career. It gave me a solid subject knowledge and practical experience, allowing me to design fun and interesting lessons. It also allowed me to develop my presentation and group work skills, as well as my organisation and research skills. I would recommend studying chemistry at Plymouth to anyone. The chemistry course is well organised, interesting, hands-on and supported by great lecturers.
