Imagine you were about to start university again - with the benefit of hindsight - what advice would you give yourself?

If you've got a problem that you can't fix within a few days, ask others for help rather than keep putting it off.

What was your main reason for choosing to study your course at Plymouth, and how did we support you in your studies?

I chose Plymouth because the lecturers were really friendly and enthusiastic and the course has the (highly encouraged) option of a placement year.  My placement year helped to give me real‑world work experience in an office environment. In final year, you can really tell the difference between those how have been on placement and those who haven't!

I used PALS during my first year. It was a useful service to get module help from second year students. (Plymouth University's Peer assisted learning scheme (PALS) gives first and second year students the opportunity to take part in regular study sessions run by second and third year students who are fully trained PALS leaders.)

I have been able to experience a wide range of modules. Also, the lecturers are always willing to help or answer questions through emails and face to face meetings. 

How did studying at Plymouth change your career aspirations and plans?

I wasn't sure what exactly I wanted to do as a career before starting my degree. I enjoyed my artificial intelligence modules, so decided to specialise in this area: I am due to start MSc Artificial Intelligence at Southampton University in the autumn.  The artificial intelligence modules have given me a good grounding for the topics that I will encounter in my masters.

What is your favourite memory of studying for your degree at Plymouth?

The lecturer who would help us understand the concepts by using anecdotes of his kids or cat!
