University of Plymouth Polyclinic

The University’s Polyclinic will provide holistic student-led care which is supported and supervised by clinical and academic staff from across the Faculty of Health and which allows members of the community to access health and wellbeing advice and patient education. 

Wellbeing and Getting Active Day

10:00 to 17:00 Saturday 7 May 2022

Our first polyclinic day is taking place in May and we are inviting staff, students, and members of the public to get involved.  

Our first theme is Wellbeing and Getting Active, and will involve students from programmes ranging from cardiac physiology to podiatry. There will be several clinics running on the day and there are opportunities to pre-book a clinic slot, attend a drop-in on the day, or take part in one of our group talks and demonstrations.

The clinics available on the day include:

  • MOT for your Heart
    In this 90 minute clinic slot, you will have a chance to learn more about how healthy your heart is. We will take your blood pressure, scan your heart using an echocardiogram, check your heart’s rhythm with an ECG, and give you some advice on ways to keep your heart healthy. Bookable and drop-in slots available.
  • Know your Blood Pressure
    Not sure what your blood pressure is? Want a bit more advice? This short clinic slot is for you. Drop-in slots available.

  • Physiotherapy MSK clinic 
    Do you have a niggle or an injury, or are feeling pain or discomfort and would benefit from some expert physiotherapy advice. This clinic slot is for you. Bookable and drop-in slots available 

  • Podiatry Foot Clinic The Foot clinic will provide an opportunity to get some expert advice from our podiatry team on foot issues from general footwear advice to vascular assessments e.g. for those with diabetes. Bookable and drop-in slots available.
  • Falls and Balance Screening 
  • Nutrition Clinic
    Our student dietitians can offer you support with a range of nutritional concerns including: nutritional adequacy (for vegetarians/vegans, bone health, pregnancy or menopause), gut dysfunction (including constipation, diarrhoea, heartburn or IBS), food and mood, nutrition in later life (including menopause), and nutrition for a healthy heart (including high blood pressure, high cholesterol or pre-diabetes).
  • Lifestyle Redesign 
  • Lifestyle and Goal Setting advice 1:2:1 
  • ECG 
  • Echocardiogram 
  • Take Your History 
  • BMI Check
