SCB003: Digital Print Hub and paper store
The Digital Print Hub specialises in high-quality printing from 6 inch (152 mm) photos from our self-service kiosk through to the 44 inch (1110 mm) large format printers covering an ultra-wide colour gamut.
A range of different papers are available for the large format printers and we also have facilities for dry mounting and cutting, usually onto 5 mm foam board up to A0 print sizes.
In addition to the large format printers, we also have a pair of sheet feed printers capable of printing on a wider range of materials and also double-sided up to A2 size.
The Digital Print Hub also has a plotter/cutter for vinyl signs and sticker maker that works with 24 inch (630 mm) rolls up to any length. Specialist guidance for all of these machines is available from faculty technicians available from Monday to Friday.
These are self-service and bookable via the SmartHub.

Wide-format printing

We have two high-quality roll feed inkjet printers capable of very large prints. Both our printers have different widths and paper options (see below), which are all priced by the amount of material used. You can find paper samples and prices in the Digital Print Hub.
Files for these printers should be supplied correctly sized at 300dpi in either JPEG, TIFF or PDF formats. The printers achieve the best colour range using the Adobe RGB 1998 colour space and use industry-standard Fuji Hunt RIP Software to manage workflow. This makes it possible to increase image size without loss of quality. The technical staff can advise you further in this process.

Instant printing – dry lab service

You have the option to use a new digital print service using the latest kiosk and print technology from Epson, the sure colour D3000 and D700 print labs. This new service provides a speedy way to print imagery on demand, giving you the option to print from a range of sizes from 6×4’’ up to 12×18’’.
Using a Kiosk interface, you will be able to collate orders from various media devices, such as memory sticks, hard drives and mobile phones.
All imagery is printed on a standard Lustre 180gsm photo finish paper, and are offered in the following paper sizes (in inches):

Print finishing

We offer various types of finishing; the most popular is 5 mm white foam board, which is very lightweight. The other option is a 2.5 m Tac board.
Both types of board are coated with an adhesive mount film on one side, so you do not need to use spray mount or tape, giving a professional finish to your art work.

Paper store

The faculty paper store is housed next to the Digital Print Hub and stocks a wide range of paper, fabric, sign making vinyl, bookbinding materials and print sundries used in the adjoining print studios. Much of the paper stock available from the paper store also provides great results when used with the University's laser printers, which are accessible in many of the studios and open access areas across the campus. Please note that all goods from the paper store and Digital Print Hub are paid for via your University campus card. We accept no cash in these areas.

How to get your images printed

We do not accept hard drives or memory sticks when receiving student data (except for through the instant printing service). Please use our preferred method, which is to use our print server, which can be accessed by all computers in the  Scott Building and the Roland Levinsky Building .
For more details, please liaise with a technical member of the Digital Print Hub team.

Submitting work through the print server

The print server provides a temporary holding location on the University network for files awaiting printing.
Complete instructions on how to use the print server are available in the Digital Print Hub.
Inductions on this process are also run throughout the year.
