The Trustees of the Lord Caradon Lectures Trust are delighted to welcome attendees to this year's Lord Caradon Lecture at the University of Plymouth.
This year's lecturer is Jon Sopel, one of Britain’s foremost journalists and commentators. Given the current volatility in world affairs, the Trustees will be working with Jon to agree on the most relevant subject for his lecture as the year progresses.
Jon currently hosts the multi-award-winning podcast, The News Agents, along with Emily Maitlis and Lewis Goodall. Before that, he was the BBC’s North America Editor, during which time he wrote a trilogy of books about Trump’s America. He has also served as the Paris correspondent and the corporation’s chief political correspondent. His new book Strangeland focuses on returning to the UK after his eight years in the US. Jon also writes a regular column for the Independent on US politics. He is the pro chancellor of Southampton University and an ambassador for Hospice UK.
The lecture will start at 19:30.

About The Lord Caradon Lectures Trust

The Lord Caradon Lectures Trust was established to commemorate the life and work of Hugh Mackintosh Foot, Lord Caradon (1907–90).
Today, the Trust exists to recognise Lord Caradon’s long and devoted service to the ideals of the United Nations and his work for the UK’s contribution to those concepts. It aims to extend understanding of international affairs and tolerance of other ideologies, races and religions, primarily through the series of annual lectures.
The lectures are always on a theme of international significance related to Lord Caradon’s life and work.
By the terms of the Trust all lectures are open to the public and admission is free. The lectures are either held at the University of Plymouth or Plymouth Marjon University.
