'Skills for SEND' is a programme of events, workshops and annual conferences held by Plymouth Institute of Education to share current research-informed, evidence-based practice. This is in response to the Plymouth Local Area Improvement Plan, and the move away from the National Award for SENCo towards the leadership level national professional qualification (NPQ).
Workshops will cover key themes including child voice and child-centred planning, reducing exclusion rates, early identification, adaptive teaching and working in partnership with alternative settings. Sessions will be specifically beneficial for teaching assistants, teachers, SENCOs and school leaders. Events are intended to be used as starting points for reflective discussion, to complement continuous professional development for supporting SEND provision across the South West.
