The Brain Research & Imaging Centre at the University of Plymouth has a range of cutting-edge brain research laboratories conducting work at the forefront of the exploration of human brain structure and function in health and disease.
This event is an opportunity to explore current research and developments at this multi-modal brain research facility with presentations, demonstrations and a chance to look at some of the centre’s world-leading facilities.
PROGRAMME
10:00 – Arrivals, tea, coffee, introduction and Bingo cards!
10:15 – Laboratory tours and demonstrations
Attendees will be divided into two small groups to explore the following laboratories:
Attendees will be divided into two small groups to explore the following laboratories:
- Motor Control Laboratory: The laboratory provides the critical mass and collaborative environment to develop neuroscience research that will translate into clinical trials having a real impact on people’s lives.
- MRI Laboratory: The laboratory offers an environment for investigating theories with cutting-edge neuroimaging methodologies, made possible by a state-of-the-art 3-Tesla Siemens Prisma MR scanner, which is the most advanced scanner in the region.
- Brain Stimulation Laboratory: The laboratory enables research that targets the causes of neurological disorders using an ultrasound neurostimulation technique that is safe, non-invasive and localised (at the millimetre scale).
11:45 – Harnessing EEG-based brain-computer interfaces for neurological conditions (Dr Krithika Anil, Research Fellow, School of Health Professions)
12:00 – Transcranial ultrasound stimulation (TUS) for neuromodulation (Dr Sophie Clarke and Dr Suraya Dunsford, Postdoctoral Research Fellows, School of Psychology)
12:15 – Over-riding nerve impulses to explore sensori-motor control of balance (Dr Lisa Bunn, Associate Professor of Neurological Rehabilitation, School of Health Professions)
12:30 – Lunch and prizes
13:30 – Departures
