Facilities

The Maths Lab
Student study area equipped with whiteboards and a data projector. Located next to staff offices, as part of our 'open door' policy.

SUM:UP
Mathematics and statistics drop-in area in the library.

Modern IT facilities
PC-equipped tutorial rooms and PC- and Mac-equipped open-access labs, as well as WiFi access and license support for your devices.

Scientific software
Gain expertise in Python programming language, systems for symbolic manipulation and visualisation (Maple), as well as statistical computing and data analysis (R and Excel).

High Performance Computing for project work
For project students we can offer access to High Performance Computing, and, for interested advanced students we support the use of modern scientific programming languages (Python, C, C++, R, Fortran and Open MPI). Students also have access to our GPU research centre for massively parallel processing.

Our research expertise

Research spans pure and applied mathematics, medical and financial statistics, theoretical physics and simulations using high performance computing.

Our research is supported by our own High Performance Computing facility. The supercomputer is a state-of-the-art cluster comprising more than 1000 cores using InfiniBand for fast communication.
