TOTUS Student Scholarship

A scholarship for students intending to study Biological Sciences, Marine Biology or Ocean Sciences undergraduate degrees

Students intending to study one of our undergraduate Biological Science, Marine Biology or Ocean Science degrees, who fulfil at least one of the criteria outlined below, are invited to apply for the TOTUS Student Scholarship.
With thanks to TOTUS Engineering, the University is able to provide one scholarship a year. The recipient will receive £500 per year for the three years (total £1,500) of their undergraduate course (excluding placement year) to help with their studies.

Eligibility criteria

  • Low family income – Your household income is less than £25,000 per year, as assessed by Student Finance. Visit our Student Finance pages for further guidance.
  • TUNDRA area – You live in a postcode where fewer people typically go to university. Please use our contextual offer postcode tool to check for eligibility (We are using the same Indices of Multiple Deprivation Quintile 1 (IMDQ1) criteria as our indicator for Contextual Offers)
  • Looked-after young person – You are or have been in foster care or a care leaver.
  • Carer – You provide unpaid care for a family member or friend due to illness, disability, mental health issues, or addiction, with evidence required.
  • Estranged from parents – You have had no verbal or written contact with both biological/adoptive parents, or only living parent, for 12 months or more, with little likelihood of reconciliation. Applicants must provide a statement of evidence from an independent person of good standing in the community or have recognised estranged status from Student Finance.
The following is a complete list of students who are not eligible to apply for the award:
  • Those who intend to study a subject other than Biological Sciences, Marine Biology or Ocean Science.
  • Those who do not meet any of the eligibility criteria.
  • Those progressing directly into the second or third year of study.
  • Those already enrolled in an eligible course.
  • Those who have already completed a degree.
  • Overseas students.
