Biography

I am interested in understanding how humans interact with the environment and how these interactions are shaped by differences in knowledge, perceptions and cultural values. For my master’s I investigated the ecology and cultural relevance of the common prawn fishery on the Isles of Scilly, coupling social and ecological data to take an interdisciplinary approach towards conservation studies.
My role as research assistant on the aMER Unit requires me to be responsible for a range of duties on several marine ecology research projects as part of a small team at the university. Research is primarily focussed on MPAs and fish ecology.

I contribute to a number of research projects that are on-going including Offshore Shellfish monitoring project, The Isles of Scilly sediment habitat monitoring survey, Plymouth National Marine Park Monitoring, acoustic telemetry fish tracking in the South West and the Lyme Bay MPA monitoring project; the UK’s best example of a long-term time series dataset evidencing the ecological effect of MPAs.
