Paleomagnetic Senior Technician
School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences (Faculty of Science and Engineering)
Based in the Fitzroy building, I work as a technician in the Earth Sciences. I am responsible for the Rock Preparation Workshop within the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences. Used by everyone from undergraduate to professor, teaching samples to research the workshop prepares samples for analyses by a variety of means, whether it be geochemical, polished blocks or paleomagnetic.
I qualified from the University of Plymouth in 2005 with a BSc (Hons) Geology and Ocean Science, I then followed this up with a MSc Global Environmental Change, completed in 2006, also at the University of Plymouth. From there I worked offshore on drilling rigs for 10 years, drilling exploration and appraisal wells mostly in the North Sea. The last 3 years of my time offshore was spent working as a Wellsite Geologist for NAM/Shell offshore Netherlands.
