Biography

Biography

Based in the Davy building, I work as a Senior Technician in the Earth Sciences. I am responsible for the Rock Preparation Workshop within the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences. Used by everyone from undergraduate to professor, teaching samples to research, the workshop prepares samples for analyses by a variety of means, whether it be geochemical, polished blocks or paleomagnetic.

I am also currently working with others on a NERC funded research grant "The 3D anatomy of magma transport at fast-spreading ocean ridges". Providing sample preparation and analysis in geochemistry and paleomagnetic techniques - AMS and magnetometry (AF and Thermal de-mag).

Qualifications

I qualified from the University of Plymouth in 2005 with a BSc (Hons) Geology and Ocean Science, I then followed this up with a MSc Global Environmental Change, completed in 2006, also at the University of Plymouth. From there I worked offshore on drilling rigs for 10 years, drilling exploration and appraisal wells mostly in the North Sea. The last 3 years of my time offshore was spent working as a Wellsite Geologist for NAM/Shell offshore Netherlands.
