The Project Team

Dr Haya Al-Dajani is an Associate Professor (Reader) in Entrepreneurship and leads the Responsible Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation Group at the University of Plymouth where she also co-chairs the Displacement Studies Research Network. Haya also co-chairs the Gender and Enterprise Network (Special Interest Group of the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship). Her overall research focuses upon the intersectionality of gender, entrepreneurship and empowerment, and their collective impact on sustainable development. She has secured over one million GBPs in research funding from EU, UK and other funding bodies, and currently is the Principal Investigator of two RCUK funded projects (ESRC – DfID and ESRC – AHRC). Her research is published in leading international entrepreneurship journals and books, and she is a member of the Editorial Boards of the International Small Business Journal and the International Journal of Gender and Entrepreneurship.

Professor Susan Marlow is Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Nottingham Haydn Green Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Visiting Professor at the University of Leeds and the University of Vienna. She is a holder of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion, Editor of the International Small Business Journal and Fellow of the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship. Her research interests lie in the broad area of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial behaviours in contemporary society with a specific interest in gender issues. Susan Marlow is the author and co-author of books and numerous peer reviewed academic articles in leading UK and North American Journals and the editor of number of book series focused upon entrepreneurship and small business management.

Hakan Demirbuken

Founded and directed by our project partner Hakan Demirbuken, UDA Consulting was established as an international consultancy company in Turkey in 2009. UDA Consulting aims to empower businesses, industries and public institutions by enabling them to draw meaningful inferences from data and therefore focuses on statistics, project management and evaluation, research and Geographical Information Systems. It provides timely, reliable and accurate consultancy services and trainings on these topics by following international standards for research activities (ISO 9001 & ISO 20252) and sticks to its principles of respecting human rights, cultural diversity, protection of environment and gender equality at all times.

Dr Aida Essaid

Directed by our project partner Dr Aida Essaid, the IRCKHF serves as a catalyst for socio-economic transformation through research, information and dissemination of knowledge. The IRCKHF was launched in 1996 and promotes the welfare of children, youth, women, families, communities, and vulnerable groups by providing objective, multidisciplinary research and analysis to practitioners and policymakers in Jordan and the Middle East, enabling effective socio-economic planning and decision-making.

Through cooperation with national and international partners and the creation of an online platform for knowledge sharing, the IRCKHF advocates for positive change by disseminating research findings on critical issues falling under the pillars of social cohesion, equality and justice, and civil society empowerment. The IRCKHF provides access to information using quality research, education and awareness, and advocacy.

Dr Nasser Yassin

Nasser is the Director of Research at The Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut (IFI) in Lebanon. IFI aims to contribute positively to Arab policy-making and international relations by raising the quality of public policy-related debate and decision-making in the Arab World and abroad; enhance the Arab World's input into international affairs; and, enrich the quality of interaction among scholars, officials and civil society actors in the Middle East and beyond.

Nasser’s research and practice interests are within the area of development planning with emphasis on policy and planning in countries in transition and those in the post-conflict phase. His work tackles the making as well as implementation of public and development policies including social, health, poverty alleviation and youth development policies.
