Medical Statistics: teaching

Staff within the Medical Statistics group are actively involved in the teaching of statistics to undergraduate medical students and postgraduate taught programme and research students.

Teaching of statistics to undergraduate medical students takes place primarily within the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) evidence based practice (EBP) programme in Year 1 and Year 2. Topics include basic statistics, understanding p-values and confidence intervals, study design, diagnostic accuracy studies, clinical trials and meta-analysis. In addition, as part of the research Special Study Units (SSU) module, BMBS students in Year 3 are offered the opportunity to attend a statistics clinic for support with statistical analysis, interpretation and presentation of clinical research data. Statistics clinics are also provided for postgraduate taught programme students.
