Mentor: Ruth Maltby, Systems Engineer, CMR Surgical Ltd
Sahar is building a strong foundation for a future career in robotics, combining technical skills, determination and ambition with the opportunities provided through the Tamar Engineering Project.
Since receiving the award, Sahar has been able to focus more fully on developing the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in engineering.
“Receiving the Tamar Engineering Project award had a significant positive impact on my studies," Sahar explains. “It eased financial pressure and allowed me to focus more fully on my academic work.”
The additional support has enabled Sahar to dedicate more time to academic development and build confidence across key engineering disciplines.
“With this support, I was able to dedicate more time to developing my core engineering skills, engaging with challenging coursework, and building confidence in subjects such as mathematics, programming and problem-solving, which are essential for Robotics Engineering.”
A key part of Sahar's experience has been the opportunity to participate in the mentoring programme. Through his mentor, Ruth Maltby, a Systems Engineer at CMR Surgical Ltd, Sahar has gained valuable industry insight and developed a stronger understanding of future career opportunities.
“The award strengthened my motivation to pursue a career in engineering and robotics," says Sahar. “Through the mentoring programme, I had the opportunity to engage in face-to-face mentoring with a company of my choice, which helped me build a valuable professional connection.”
The experience has helped shape Sahar's professional ambitions and increased confidence in pursuing a career within the engineering sector.
“The support from the mentoring programme gave me greater insight into the engineering industry, boosted my confidence and encouraged me to aim higher in my career ambitions.”
Beyond financial assistance and mentoring, the award has enriched Sahar's wider university experience, creating opportunities for personal growth and helping make the most of life at Plymouth.
“The award enhanced my overall university experience. It allowed me to engage more confidently with university life, focus on personal and academic development, and make the most of opportunities available at the University.”
Looking to the future, Sahar is excited by the possibilities that a career in robotics and engineering can offer.
“When I graduate, I hope to pursue a career in robotics or engineering, working in an innovative environment where I can apply my skills to real-world challenges,” Sahar says. “I am particularly interested in developing technologies that improve efficiency, safety and quality of life. In the long term, I aim to continue learning, growing professionally and contributing positively to the engineering field.”

A big thank you

Sahar would like to share a message of sincere gratitude with the donors whose generosity has supported the Tamar Engineering Project:
“I express my sincere gratitude for your generosity and support. Your contribution has made a real difference to my academic journey and has helped me stay focused and motivated throughout my studies. I am truly thankful for the opportunities your support has made possible.”
Sahar encourages others to consider supporting awards, scholarships and bursaries for future students:
“To anyone thinking of supporting an award, scholarship or bursary, I would encourage them wholeheartedly to do so. Financial support can have a life-changing impact on students, not only by easing financial challenges but also by boosting confidence, motivation and ambition. Your support enables students to focus on learning, growth and achieving their full potential, and its impact can extend far beyond university into their future careers and lives.”
