The Global Goals

In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. Munawir's work contributes towards the following SDG(s):

Goal 07: SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean EnergyGoal 09: SDG 9 - Industry, Innovation, and InfrastructureGoal 11: SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and CommunitiesGoal 13: SDG 13 - Climate ActionGoal 14: SDG 14 - Life Below Water

About Munawir

Munawir Pratama is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Coastal Processes Research Group (CPRG) and a Research Consultant with Coastal Marine Applied Research (CMAR) at the University of Plymouth. He completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh in 2025, using numerical modelling to investigate coastal and estuarine hydrodynamics. His research focuses on coastal hydrodynamics, sediment transport, shoreline change, and how coastal and island environments respond to extreme events and sea-level rise.

Munawir combines research with applied numerical modelling for coastal management and engineering projects in the UK, Indonesia and the Maldives. He contributes to the ARISE project, which investigates how atoll islands adapt naturally to sea-level rise. His consultancy work includes modelling waves, currents, sediment transport, and flooding to inform projects concerned with the physical and ecological resilience of coastal environments. He uses Delft3D, XBeach, and SFINCS alongside field observations, satellite imagery, and geospatial data. His earlier work on tidal-current energy, marine litter pathways, and coastal hazards reflects his broader interest in using coastal science to support sustainable communities and infrastructure.
