About Morag

I have 30 years’ experience as a Dental Hygienist (1992) and graduating as a Dental Therapist in 2011 (RCSEd). During my career I have experience working in private general dental practice, working within the dental trade and delivering post graduate education both nationally and internationally. I am passionate about sharing my clinical, business, and educational experiences that I have gained throughout my career with the future generations of clinicians.

In 2016 I took the decision to come into full time academia, initially with the University of the Highlands & Islands and now with Peninsula Dental School, University of Plymouth, where I lecture across BSc Dental Therapy and Bachelor Dental Surgery programmes.

My current roles within the University of Plymouth include Dental Therapy and Hygiene Year 3 Lead, module lead for the final year clinical module, DTH OSCE lead. I am the Athena Swan lead for the Dental School, I co- chair the Faculty of Health’s Wellbeing committee; member of the Faculty of Health Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) committee and Peninsula Dental School’s Equality Self-Assessment Team (SAT) committee. I am also the Wellbeing champion for the Dental School.

Teaching

I am involved in delivering undergraduate education to the BSc Dental Therapy and Bachelor in Dental Surgery students in the Simulation Dental Learning Environment; the clinical environment and face to face, online and blended formats of plenaries and workshops within the Dental school.Outside of my role at the university, I have been delivering post graduate education within the dental sector since 2010 focusing on most aspects of the scope of practice of the Dental Hygienist and Therapist, including clinical examination, caries recognition and diagnosis; prevention; periodontal instrumentation, the management of periodontal diseases and the management of peri-implant diseases.
