Julie has worked as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner at the Emergency Department, Derriford Hospital, Plymouth until November 2014 and has worked in Emergency Departments at Derriford Hospital and Bristol Royal Infirmary. Julie studied for a BSC (Hons) in Emergency care and utilised her knowledge and experience to train and support new staff and students working in the Emergency Department. She has also worked as a nurse practitioner in primary and out of hours care and in a minor injuries unit. 
In 2004 Julie became part of a pilot project to set up a nursing service in Police custody units. The project was a success and there are now custody nurses embedded in police custody units throughout Devon and Cornwall.
Julie trained as a midwife in 2006 and has worked in Genito-urinary medicine . Julie also ran a weekly clinic for asylum seekers who had been dispersed to Plymouth. This was to ensure that they had access to healthcare and their needs were addressed. Julie is passionate about nursing and is delighted to be part of the team at The University of Plymouth
