Plymouth University. Research & Innovation Conference 2013: 'Embedding Research Impact'
Research and Design impacts on Sustainability in Nursing Curricula - Janet Richardson, Maggie Doman, Jane Grose, Janet Kelsey and Mike Woods
Climate change and resource scarcity pose challenges for healthcare in the future. Our research highlighted items used in healthcare that should they no longer be available would have significant impact on patient care and service delivery. Based on this, a scenario was constructed and forms one of four skills stations during a nursing clinical skills day. Design students observe the skills stations and participate in the sustainability scenario session. Evaluation of demonstrates increased awareness and knowledge of sustainability challenges in healthcare; design students produce design solutions which are tested by the nursing students. Research has impacted on learning and practice
