Teaching interests

Alongside a busy work schedule Jamin has always tried to engage others through teaching whether in Design, international volunteer projects or coaching.

During 2006 Jamin was asked to join an international team to assist in the development and teaching of the first national BA of Visual Communication programme in the Sultante of Oman. A both challenging and very rewarding role.

Returning to the UK he worked closely with RIO the Real Ideas Organisation in developing social enterprise initiatives within school in the South West, leading to a number of successful projects.

Working with Plymouth University Jamin believes in developing students with strong concept driven work with great typography and instilling a strong foundation in brand development and editorial work. Play, experimentation and developing students love for great design is also integral for developing the foundations of a successful designer.

Research interests

With travel and humanitarian work as a large motivator Jamin has also worked extensively in the Caribbean, South America and India on various non profit projects. This also informs his current research aims of 'Making better by Design' a perhaps over ambitious and slightly(largely) idealistic ongoing research and work into how we humble designers may help the wider society in some small meaningful way.

Alongside this ongoing project Jamin has a number of other research projects on the go including

• Creative Direction for the Message Journal
• Research and assisting the development of Plymouth University's Type Lab

Additional information

Alongside working with Plymouth University, Jamin also works as a designer, both as a consultant and creative director, collaborating with international teams on both brand strategy and developing creative solutions across various digital and traditional platforms. He has worked across everything from small art projects, to multinational brand identities and integrated advertising campaigns. With a client list of blue chip companies and an enviable portfolio including work for clients such as Bentley Motors, Harley Davidson and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Attempting to keep it also closer to home Jamin somehow also balances his more commercial work with editorial design, including with UK's leading surf magazine 'Carve' working on both magazines and books allowing him to indulge in his love for surf, travel, words and photography. Recently Jamin has been awarded The British Sports Book of the Year (Best Illustrated), and a DBA Gold Award.

Jamin doesn't believe in sleep. But does in strong coffee, eclectic music and loving what he does.
