About Helen

I am currently a deputy programme lead and lecturer on the Advanced Professional Practice (Clinical Practitioner) and Advanced Clinical Practitioner apprenticeship programmes within the Faculty of Health under the School of Nursing and Midwifery. I lead on the clinical assessment skills module APP710. I have a passion to drive forward clinical roles within nursing, para-medicine and other allied health professions to equip learners, who are experienced clinicians within their own right, with advanced consultation skills, decision making and diagnostic skills to help the progression of allied health professionals within the NHS. I am still actively working in the NHS as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Emergency Medicine which ties in nicely with frameworks such as Heath Education England's (HEE) advanced practice agenda, the RCN Advanced Clinical Practice credentialing service and the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) ACP agenda.
I am a nurse by background and have had the most wonderful opportunity to share my time between being an Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Emergency Medicine in ED at Treliske in Truro as well as teaching on the Advanced Clinical Practice Programme here at UoP. I am currently deputy chair of the Association of Advanced Practice Educators (UK) (AAPEUK) and recently re-elcted by my peers to serve a furtehr term in this role. I have Senior Fellowship of the Higher education Academy status after completing my PGCert in Academic Practice.
