About Delphine

Dr Kayem is a lecturer/researcher with a DPhil in Clinical Medicine from the University of Oxford. She trained as a medical doctor in Tanzania and South Africa where she worked for several years. She is currently a member of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) and the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH). She is a fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health. She serves as an academic adviser for the UK Commonwealth Scholarship Commission and as a global assessor for the RSTMH.

Her broad research interests encompass epidemiology,  applied maternal and child health, and health services research, with a focus on infectious diseases. She is also passionate about medical education.

Supervised Research Degrees

Delphine is currently accepting PhD students.

Broad PhD topics:

  1. Tailored interventions to support prevention and treatment of maternal and neonatal sepsis: I welcome proposals which focus on the health outcomes, experiences, needs and/or effective interventions to support prevention or treatment of maternal or neonatal sepsis. Projects may also include experiences of healthcare providers and other stakeholders. 
  2. Viral infections in pregnancy, childhood and adolescence: I welcome proposals that focus on health outcomes, experiences, needs and/or strategies to support effective implementation of preventative and therapeutic options for  viral infections in the pregnancy, childhood or adolescence period.

Teaching

Delphine currently serves as the undergraduate medicine academic lead for Population Health and is co-module lead for the GH716 - Primary and Public Health Care: Global Health Systems.

She supports global and public health teaching across undergraduate medicine and the MSc in global health.
