About Chiara

I follow many topics in Geoscience. Because of that, I've defined myself a "cocktail geologist”.

I worked intensively on the tectono-stratigraphic evolution of the Northern Apennine-Adriatic foredeep system using 2D seismic profiles and well-log data. Beyond the modelling of sedimentary basins, I also worked in several laboratories: Padua (Italy), Bremen (Germany), Arizona and Texas (USA), and Glasgow (UK). I managed the Apatite Fission Track Laboratory from 2019 to 2024, and I taught the course of Basin Analysis within the Master's Degree, both at the University of Pavia (Italy).

I have also been honoured to join two oceanographic expeditions: IODP 393 in the Southern Atlantic Ocean in 2022 aboard the Joides Resolution and the Multichannel 2D Seismic Acquisition in the Blake Plateau (offshore Florida) in 2023 aboard the R/V Marcus Langseth.

Since 2023, I am also focussing on the study of the physical property changes of the oceanic crust due to low-temperature alteration and consequent precipitation of secondary minerals.

SKILLS and INTERESTS:

  1. Stratigraphic correlation and Basin modelling: surface and subsurface data analysis;
  2. Low-T thermochronology: mineral separation, fission-track and U-Th/He analysis;
  3. Petrophysics: Porosity and P-wave analysis;
  4. Laboratory Management;
  5. Outreach and activism: women in STEM
