Undergraduate accommodation guarantee

For students applying to live in halls of residence in the 2024–2025 academic year

Terms and conditions

We guarantee to offer a place in halls of residence (either University-managed or with an ANUK-accredited private halls provider) or in other suitable student accommodation to all new undergraduate students holding a firm offer who apply for their accommodation and are eligible under our terms and conditions before 17:00 on 4 July 2024.
This guarantee is offered subject to the following terms and conditions:
  1. Single-occupancy accommodation is guaranteed to new students in their first year of undergraduate study at the University (first-year or foundation-year students) who apply by the deadline stated on the University website. Applicants that this guarantee applies to are guaranteed their first year in either University-managed accommodation, or with an ANUK-accredited private halls provider, or in other suitable student accommodation on a first-come-first-served basis.
  2. Applicants must complete all aspects of their academic application including non-academic criteria and any deadlines set by faculties or Admissions to be eligible under this guarantee. In addition to completing all parts of the academic application process, applicants must respond to emails and make any applicable advanced payments in a timely fashion and meet any deadlines set for responses. We recommend setting up your accommodation account with an email other than your school or college address as these can be inaccessible after you have received your results. The University can take no responsibility for communication issues caused by the email address provided which may result in you not receiving a guaranteed place in halls.
  3. The University will offer a suitable single-occupancy room but does not guarantee your preference of provider, building or room type. The vast majority of first-year applicants are offered places in university-managed halls and every effort will be made to meet applicants’ requests; however, this is not part of the guarantee.
  4. Accommodation is only offered to single unaccompanied students. No partners, spouses, or children can be accommodated.
  5. No children may stay in halls at any time, including as overnight guests.
  6. Applicants must be over 16 years of age on the first day of their programme.
  7. Applicants over 16 but younger than 18 confirm that they are able to live independently in the halls environment and we strongly recommend they book an en-suite room within a single-sex flat. A guarantor over the age of 18 is required to sign a deed of guarantee on behalf of an applicant who is over 16 but under 18.
  8. It is strongly recommended that you complete the 'third party contact' section at the outset of your application to ensure no key dates are missed, for example due to travel in the summer, and give authority to a nominated person to communicate on your behalf. The University can only correspond with relatives or representatives registered as official third-party contacts for accommodation account matters.
  9. Where deadlines are missed and contact cannot be made, the University reserves the right to cancel the booking and offer the room to another student. In this case, the applicant will no longer be eligible for another room under the guarantee.
Where a reasonable adjustment under the Equality Act applies, the University shall consider the requirements of applications on a case-by-case basis, which may include more than one year of residence.
