A Plymouth University student has been named the best student temp in the country at the national Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) Awards.
Molly Humphreys, who works part time in the University’s Student Jobs team, was crowned the winner of the Job Shop / Student Temp Excellence award at a ceremony in Birmingham last week.
Psychology student Molly won for her outstanding work on a number of projects, including boosting social media presence, and reached the finals after winning the Plymouth University award, and subsequently the South West regional title.
The SEOTY is run by National Association of Student Employment Services (NASES), and Plymouth University entered for the first time this year.
Awards are given in four categories: Above and Beyond, Commercial Impact, Step up to Leadership, and Job Shop / Student Temp Excellence.
Molly was delighted to win her group as she explains that, as well as balancing her job with full-time study, she is also a sporting scholar and, up until a recent injury, had regularly travelled to Wales to train with Ospreys ladies rugby team.
“I honestly can’t believe that I won,” the 22-year-old student from Swansea said. “The competition was so fierce and I really didn’t expect to get it, but I’m so pleased.
“I’m always incredibly busy doing my academic study, part-time work and either training or, this year, recovering from a shoulder injury, but working with Student Jobs has been such a valuable experience. I have to be very organised with my time management and I’m very lucky to have a great support network of people. It was fantastic to be nominated in the first place and to win is unbelievable – I certainly wasn’t prepared when they asked me to do a speech!”
Student Jobs team member Aquari’elle Singer originally nominated Molly for the award and said:
“It’s wonderful that Molly has won as she works so hard at everything she does and has made a huge difference to our team in such a short time. In her role with Student Jobs she has continually proceeded to exceed all expectations and has provided us with an excellent, professional social media outlet. Molly is very dedicated to her role and has become an extremely valuable member of our team. We’re all so proud.”
Student Jobs works on behalf of students to find part-time work opportunities to fit around their studies within the University and with external employers.
