Daily Mail Community University of the Year 2027
The University of Plymouth has won the Community University of the Year 2027 award in the latest Daily Mail University Guide.

This is a huge honour that reflects the massive efforts we're making to live up to our ambitions of being a civic university with a global outlook.

I'm so proud of my team for this achievement, which is only possible thanks to their hard work. And I would also like to thank our brilliant partners, here in our home city and across the wider South West region – not least for the way they’ve embraced me as a new VC, leading this institution.
We are 100% Plymouth's university, but this award recognises the way we serve many communities.
On a day when many people will be making big decisions about their futures and working out where they want to study, this is a timely reminder that we are here for everyone.

Community University of the Year 2027 – Plymouth

Alastair McCall, Editor of the Daily Mail University Guide says:
“Region, city and university are in perfect alignment in Plymouth. The university takes it civic responsibilities seriously and makes a considerable positive impact on the businesses and people of this great naval city.
“Given the increased national and international focus on defence, the university finds itself remarkably on message with government priorities, leading research with the National Centre for Marine Autonomy and having partnerships with some of the leading players in the defence industry, most notably with the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Navy, both key local employers.”
The Mail’s citation goes on to praise the University’s community healthcare facilities, including its new £7.7 million Centre for Eyecare Excellence, which opens later this year:
“The University of Plymouth is a key driver of the local and regional economy, and a pitch perfect example of how a university can be transformative not just for the students who go there but for the wider community around it.
“Many universities declare an allegiance to their local community, but few actually deliver to the extent that the University of Plymouth does. For its winning combination of civic responsibility and global outlook, Plymouth is the Daily Mail Community University of the Year 2027.”
